Hello everyone,

Here is the month's Mid Month Missive and this month our album is 1989 by Taylor Swift. How are you all enjoying it?

Let's start with the music -

We're listening to the original release of 1989

But you're welcome to listen to Taylor's Version. I've seen reviews that suggest that it's not quite as good as the original but the differences are tiny (and I couldn't spot them).

Also, you might want to listen to the single release of Bad Blood featuring Kendrick Lamar.

Finally, if you want a more 'rock' reworking of the tracks, Ryan Adams has you covered.

There is no shortage of Taylor Swift content out there. Here are a few things that I have pulled from the mountain.

This is a good interview about the background to the album

The original deluxe release had a few voice notes included where she talks about her songwriting process, you can find them on YouTube. Here's a Playlist that contains them (and some from other albums)

And how about a couple of the official videos...

The classic Shake It Off video

And Blank Space

Whilst there are no 1989 tracks in her performance on Tiny Desk, I had to include it as it demonstrates what a talented songwriter and musician she is. Turning up with no band and just a guitar and piano 👏

Taylor's version of the Eras Tour Movie is on Disney+ here https://disneyplus.com/en-GB/browse/entity-48f31304-ed30-47af-8c7e-83f825129b10

If you want to skip directly to the 1989 section here are the time stamps.

02:08:21 Style / 02:10:43 Blank Space / 02:14:59 Shake It Off / 02:18:36 Wildest Dreams / 02:20:59 Bad Blood

Here are Pitchfork reviews for both the original release and Taylor's version.

I'm enjoying reading reviews from around the time of release (always more interesting than when everyone has 'agreed' on the narrative for the album). Here are the ones from the NME and Guardian plus a bonus from (checks notes) the Catholic Church...

Have your say on what we all listen to next month - The poll is open - https://forms.gle/nNq3yNA59kuH7hzNA

Keep listening and remember - No Skipping, No Shuffling.
